Sie können sich so spontan und fließend verständigen, dass ein normales Gespräch mit Muttersprachlern ohne größere Anstrengung auf beiden Seiten gut möglich ist. Zu einem breiten Themenspektrum können Sie sich klar und detailliert ausdrücken, einen Standpunkt zu einer aktuellen Frage erläutern und die Vor- und Nachteile verschiedener Möglichkeiten angeben.
Unser 14-täglicher Speakers' Corner richtet sich an Teilnehmende mit Englischkenntnissen auf dem Niveau B1 bis B2, die ihre Sprechfähigkeiten in einem entspannten und anregenden Format anwenden und verbessern wollen. Nach dem Vorbild im englischen Hyde Park wird über unterschiedlichste Themen gesprochen, die sowohl aktuelle gesellschaftliche Fragen als auch kulturelle und persönliche Interessen abdecken, und gerne darf jede/r den Austausch zu einem Thema vorschlagen. Dies fördert nicht nur den Wortschatz und Ihre Ausdrucksfähigkeit, sondern trägt auch zur Stärkung des Selbstvertrauens beim freien Sprechen bei.
We will focus on those aspects of grammar and vocabulary that are particularly difficult for German-speakers. Mistakes often occur because your native language interferes with your attempts to express yourself in English. For example, you might say "actually" instead of "currently", "I am born in Berlin" instead of "I was born...", etc. The aim of the course is to make such mistakes a thing of the past.

This course will give you a solid understanding of English tenses and how to use them correctly. We will look at the following tenses: present simple/continuous, past simple/continuous, present perfect simple/continuous, past perfect, future tenses: future simple/ continuous, be going to, present continuous, present simple, future perfect simple/continuous.
By the end of this course, you will be able to: Use conditional sentences to express hypothetical situations and their possible outcomes. Use modal verbs to express possibility, necessity, permission, and obligation. Use relative clauses to define things and people,and to provide additional information.
Word formation plays a significant role in expanding vocabulary. The main objectives of the word formation process are to form new words with the same root by deploying different rules or processes. For example, by learning the affixes (prefixes and suffixes) that can be added to a root word, you can create many new words that are related in meaning. This can help you understand the meaning of new words that you encounter in your reading and listening acitvities.

Für fortgeschrittene Lernende: Sie verfügen über gute Kenntnisse auf fortgeschrittenem Niveau und möchten diese vor allem kommunikativ und trotzdem strukturiert weiter ausbauen. Auf der Stufe B2 können Sie sich schon detailliert ausdrücken und argumentieren. Zu den meisten allgemeinen Themen verfügen Sie über einen ausreichend großen Wortschatz und Sie beherrschen die Grammatik recht gut.

Feel free to join - we will learn more and talk about current issues. Material to be used in the course: Video clips, various newspaper and magazine articles. A visit to the English Theatre may be planned as well. According to participants’ wishes we will revise certain grammatical issues as well.
This English course enables you to practice all aspects of your language ability in a lively and varied manner. We will embark on a journey through a selected country, looking at its history, culture and current issues, using up-to-date material such as articles, short films and podcasts. A second focal point will be the reading of a novel, which through a mix of activities (small group and partner work), will provide a platform for interesting discussion.
In this course we will deal with the autobiography 'The Glass Castle' written by Jeannette Walls. She is a famous American journalist and describes her upbringing in fairly chaotic circumstances. Her parents – though loving their children and teaching them a lot about nature, science and the arts – preferred a ‚nomadic‘ lifestyle, travelling the US, avoiding routine and respectability. At some point Jeannette discovered that she had to get out in order to succeed in life. She took responsibility for her own and her siblings’ future and managed to escape to New York. It is quite fascinating to read how she managed to do this. The book offers great insight into America, its society and its people – it describes the ‚American Dream‘ from a young person’s perspective.

Für weit fortgeschrittene Lernende: Sie haben ein B2-Lehrbuch abgeschlossen (oder vergleichbare Vorkenntnisse) und möchten sich zur Festigung und Vertiefung noch mit Lernmaterial dieser Stufe beschäftigen. Auf B2-Niveau können Sie sich schon detailliert ausdrücken und argumentieren. Zu den meisten allgemeinen Themen verfügen Sie über einen ausreichend großen Wortschatz und Sie beherrschen die Grammatik gut.
This course is designed to develop every language skill, but pays particular attention to communication skills. Up-to-date audio and video material from the BBC exposes students to real world topics and language and serves as a basis for conversation tasks. Speaking about a broad range of everyday life topics will not only expand vocabulary but help build confidence when speaking English.
Each lesson will be devoted to a topic agreed upon by the participants. A comprehensive list of questions will serve as a road map for the conversation. For homework, you will receive a short vocabulary exercise based on the topic.
This business English course covers the core areas of business Englisch at B-level with a strong focus on speaking and communicating in real-life business situations: - personal encounters (social situations of business English such as building relationships, dealing with customers, clients and colleagues), - day-to-day business (daily routines such as making appointments, writing agendas and minutes and planing your work, online meetings), - business results (how to make an impact with the results of your work, reporting on progress and achievements, keeping each other informed and dealing with facts and figures).
